Background

The lives of Halliwell sisters  Prue, Piper, and Phoebe really began after the death of their maternal grandmother, Penelope Halliwell. After thinking about it, the three girls decide to move back into their family Manor in San Francisco. While snooping around, the youngest sister, Phoebe, discovered an old book the Book of Shadows in the attic. Reading an incantation from it, she unwittingly set in motion events that fulfilled an ancient prophecy. Strange and harrowing occurrences began which eventually led the sisters to realize that they were the most powerful witches on earth.

The first three seasons focus on Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell. However, with Prue's death after the Season 3 finale, Piper and Phoebe think their days of being Charmed Ones are done until they discover their secret maternal half-sister Paige Matthews.

In 2007 after battling with Billie and Christy Jenkins, bringing the arrival of another shock to the Halliwell Family again, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige discover they have another secret maternal half-sister Peyton Campbell from their maternal side.

• Shannen Doherty as Prue Halliwell (seasons 1 - 3; guest seasons 9x01) - the eldest sister of the Charmed Ones. She worked as a photographer before she died. Prue lived with her two youngest sisters Piper and Phoebe in the Halliwell Manor. Prue has the power of Telekinesis from her distant relative named Melinda Warren. Also, she gained her second power, Astral Projection in season 2 but she had little use of it because her power did not increase, and she was killed following the season 3 finale.
• Holly Marie Combs as Piper Halliwell (seasons 1 - 14) - the middle sister of the Charmed Ones, after becoming the eldest sister of the Charmed Ones. She is the kindest, caring, and maternal of the four sisters. Also, she can be very sarcastic and quick-witted. Piper has the power of Molecular Immobilization from her distant relative named Melinda Warren. After her oldest sister, Prue's death, she becomes the elder sister and leader of the Halliwell family.
• Alyssa Milano as Phoebe Halliwell (seasons 1 - 14) - the youngest sister of the Charmed Ones, after becoming the middle sister of the Charmed Ones. She is first introduced as a free-spirited, rebellious, and open-minded young woman who helped her older sisters embrace their Charmed destiny. Phoebe has the power of Premonition from her distant relative named Melinda Warren.
• Rose McGowan as Paige Matthews (seasons 4 - 14) - the half-witch, half-Whitelighter, maternal half-sister to the Halliwells. She is stubborn, strong-willed, and has issues with her (biological) father. Paige has the power of Telekinetic Orbing after the death of her oldest sister, Prue Halliwell. Prue shared the power of telekinesis. However, Paige's telekinetic power worked through orbs due to her whitelighter part.
• Shiri Appleby as Peyton Campbell (seasons 9 - 14) - the half-witch, half-Warlock, maternal half-sister to the Halliwells. Peyton is very similar to her deceased oldest half-sister, Prue Halliwell, and her other older half-sister, Paige Matthews, in terms of personality. She is also a stubborn, strong-willed, and independent woman. She has the powers of Pyrokinesis and Telepathy, also her warlock powers from her father's side.
